✧ At the limit of alcohol

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ «أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ قَدْ شَرِبَ خَمْرًا فَضَرَبَهُ بِجَرِيدَتَيْنِ» ثُمَّ فَعَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ اسْتَشَارَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ أَخَفُّ الْحُدُودِ ثَمَانِينَ قَالَ «فَفَعَلَ»

✧ A man who had drunk wine was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, and he struck him with two palm branches. Then Abu Bakr did likewise. When it was Umar's time, he consulted the people, and Abd al-Rahman b. Awf said, "The lightest of the prescribed punishments is eighty (lashes)." He said, "So he did that."
