أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ يُقَالُ لَهَا عَائِذَةُ قَالَتْ

رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ يُوصِي الرِّجَالَ وَالنِّسَاءَ وَيَقُولُ «مَنْ أَدْرَكَ مِنْكمْ مِنَ امْرَأَةٍ أَوْ رَجُلٍ فَالسَّمْتَ الْأَوَّلَ السَّمْتُ الْأَوَّلُ فَإِنَّكُمْ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ»

Translation

✧ I saw Ibn Mas'ud giving advice to men and women, saying, "Whoever meets a man or a woman, the first greeting should be the first greeting, as you are upon the primordial nature." Abdullah said, "The first greeting is the correct way."
