Sunan ad-Darimi 1525

✧ Allah descends to the lower sky.

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ مَوْلَى أُمِّ صُبَيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ

لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ عِنْدَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ وَلَأَخَّرْتُ الْعِشَاءَ الْآخِرَةَ إِلَى ثُلُثِ اللَّيْلِ فَإِنَّهُ إِذَا مَضَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْأَوَّلُ هَبَطَ اللَّهُ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا فَلَمْ يَزَلْ هُنَالِكَ حَتَّى يَطْلُعَ الْفَجْرُ يَقُولُ قَائِلٌ أَلَا سَائِلٌ يُعْطَى؟ أَلَا دَاعٍ يُجَابُ؟ أَلَا سَقِيمٌ يَسْتَشْفِي فَيُشْفَى؟ أَلَا مُذْنِبٌ مُسْتَغْفِرُ فَيُغْفَرَ لَهُ؟

✧ Were it not that I would burden my community, I would have commanded them to use the siwak before every prayer, and I would have delayed the last night prayer until one-third of the night. For when the first third of the night has passed, Allah descends to the lowest sky and remains there until dawn rises, saying: Is there anyone who asks, that he may be given? Is there anyone who calls, that he may be answered? Is there anyone sick, that he may be healed? Is there any sinner seeking forgiveness, that he may be forgiven?
