✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the ʿIshāʾ prayer one night until a third of the night had almost passed or nearly so. Then he came, while the people were asleep, scattered in groups and circles, and he became angry and said: "If a man were to call the people"—and ʿAmr said, "invite the people"—"to a bone with meat or two sheep trotters, they would respond to it, yet they stay behind from this prayer. I was determined to order a man to lead the people in prayer, and then I would go after the people of these houses who stay behind from this prayer and set their homes on fire upon them."
