أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُعَلَّى بْنُ أَسَدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ حَدَّثَنَا خُصَيْفٌ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَالَ

كَانُوا يَجْتَنِبُونَ النِّسَاءَ فِي الْمَحِيضِ وَيَأْتُونَهُنَّ فِي أَدْبَارِهِنَّ فَسَأَلُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى {وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْمَحِيضِ قُلْ هُوَ أَذًى فَاعْتَزِلُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي الْمَحِيضِ وَلَا تَقْرَبُوهُنَّ حَتَّى يَطْهُرْنَ فَإِذَا تَطَهَّرْنَ فَأْتُوهُنَّ مِنْ حَيْثُ أَمَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ} [البقرة 222] «فِي الْفَرْجِ وَلَا تَعْدُوهُ»

Translation

✧ They used to avoid women during menstruation but would have anal intercourse with them. They asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about that, and Allah, Exalted is He, revealed: "They ask you about menstruation. Say, 'It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation and do not approach them until they are pure. And when they have purified themselves, then come to them from where Allah has ordained you'" [2:222], meaning in the vagina, and do not go beyond it.
