✧ I asked Hafsah bt. 'Abd al-Rahman, who is Ibn Abi Bakr. I said to her, “I want to ask you about something, but I am too shy to ask you about it.” She said, “Ask, O son of my brother, whatever occurs to you.” He said, “I ask you about coming to women in their back passages.” She said, “Umm Salamah narrated to me: The Ansar used not to mount women from behind, while the Muhajirun did. A man from the Muhajirun married a woman from the Ansar and mounted her from behind, but the Ansari woman refused. She came to Umm Salamah and mentioned that to her. When the Prophet ﷺ came, the Ansari woman felt shy and left, so Umm Salamah mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, ‘Call her to me.’ So she was called, and he said to her, “Your wives are a tilth for you, so come to your tilth as you wish” [al-Baqarah 223], “through one opening only.” The opening is the single passage.”
