machine translationMūsā b. ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ narrated it from his father, from ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir, that he wiped over his leather socks from one Friday to the next. Mufaḍḍal b. Faḍālah and Ibn Lahīʿah followed him, from Yazīd b. Abī Ḥabīb, from ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ḥakam al-Balawī, from ʿAlī b. Rabāḥ, and they both said in it: "You have hit upon the Sunnah." But ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith, Yaḥyā b. Ayyūb and al-Layth b. Saʿd differed from them and said in it: "ʿUmar said: You have done right," and they did not say "the Sunnah" as those before them said. And that is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version.
