machine translationAl-Ḥākim was silent about it and said: "I do not know anyone who traced it back (as musnad) from ʿUbaydullāh other than ʿAlī b. Ẓabyān, and he is truthful (ṣadūq). Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd, Hushaym and others, and Mālik from Nāfiʿ, have made it mawqūf."
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 688 - Dāraquṭnī
machine translationʿAlī b. Ẓabyān raised it (as marfūʿ) in this way, but Yaḥyā b. al-Qaṭṭān, Hushaym and others made it mawqūf, and that is the correct view. Then he transmitted their report. Some of them have declared this hadith weak (ḍaʿīf) because of ʿAlī b. Ẓabyān.
machine translationAl-Khallāl said: "Aḥmad permitted that only for the one who interpreted the narrations according to his own practice, except that the narrations about it from him, concerning the two strikes, are extremely weak (ḍaʿīf jiddan)."
