machine translationʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ and traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ (marfūʿ), while Warqāʾ, Abū ʿAwānah and others transmitted it as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf), and that is the correct view.

machine translationJarīr also narrated it, saying from ʿAṭāʾ, from Saʿīd, from Ibn ʿAbbās, who traced it back to the Prophet ﷺ, concerning the man with smallpox. He said: This is an error, in which ʿAlī b. ʿĀṣim erred. Abū ʿAwānah, Warqāʾ and others narrated it from ʿAṭāʾ b. al-Sāʾib, from Saʿīd, from Ibn ʿAbbās as mawqūf, and that is the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) report.
