…Allah ﷺ and said, "What do you say about a stray camel?" He became angry and his cheeks turned red, and he said, "What do you want with it? It has its hooves and its water-skin; it goes down to the water and eats from the trees until its owner comes to it." He said, "And a stray sheep?" He said, "Take it. It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."

machine translationRabīʿah b. Abī ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrates it, and there is disagreement concerning him about it, from Yazīd, the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet ﷺ. Al-Layth b. Saʿd contradicted him and said: "Someone with whom I am satisfied narrated to me, from Ismāʿīl b. Umayyah, from Rabīʿah and others, from the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, from a man from among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is from Rabīʿah, from Yazīd, the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, from Zayd b. Khālid al-Juhanī, from the Prophet ﷺ.
