ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (may God be pleased with him) acquired a piece of land in Khaybar, so he came to the Prophet ﷺ to seek his counsel about it. He said: "O Messenger of God, I have acquired land in Khaybar; I have never acquired any wealth more precious to me than it. What do you command me to do with it?" He said: "If you wish, you may preserve its origin and give its yield as charity." He said: So he gave it as charity, on the condition that its origin was not to be sold, nor given away, nor inherited. So he gave it in charity to the poor, to the relatives, for the freeing of slaves, in the cause of God, to the wayfarer, and to the guest. There is no blame on whoever manages it if he eats from it in a fair manner or feeds a friend, without accumulating wealth from it.
