The Messenger of God ﷺ passed by Ḥamzah on the day of Uḥud, when his nose had been cut off and his body mutilated. He said: "Were it not that Ṣafiyyah would grieve, I would leave him until God resurrects him from the bellies of the birds and the beasts of prey." Then he shrouded him in a striped woollen cloak (namirah); when his head was covered, his feet showed, and when his feet were covered, his head showed, so he covered his head. He did not pray over any of the martyrs other than him. And he said: "I am a witness over you today." No one said this wording except ʿUthmān b. ʿUmar, and (the statement) "he did not pray over any of the martyrs other than him" is not preserved (maḥfūẓ).
