"My husband divorced me three times, so I wanted maintenance, and I came to the Prophet ﷺ. He said: 'Move to the house of Ibn Umm Maktūm.'" Abū Isḥāq said: When al-Shaʿbī narrated this, al-Aswad threw pebbles at him and said: "Woe to you! Do you narrate or give a legal ruling with the like of this? She came to ʿUmar, and he said: 'If you bring two witnesses who testify that they heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (then well); otherwise we will not abandon the Book of Allah for the saying of a woman: ﴿لَا تُخْرِجُوهُنَّ مِنْ بُيُوتِهِنَّ﴾ [at-Talāq 1]' the verse." And he did not say in it "and the Sunnah of our Prophet." This is more sound than the one before it, because that statement is not established, and Yaḥyā b. Ādam is a better memorizer than Abū Aḥmad al-Zubayrī and more reliable than him, and Allah knows best. Qabīṣah b. ʿUqbah also corroborated him.{""}
