نا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ نا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ نا عَبْدَةُ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ وَقَتَادَةَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

أَنَّ زَوْجَ بَرِيرَةَ كَانَ عَبْدًا أَسْوَدَ لِبَنِي الْمُغِيرَةِ يَوْمَ أُعْتِقَتْ وَاللَّهِ لَكَأَنِّي بِهِ فِي طُرُقِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَنَوَاحِيهَا وَإِنَّ دُمُوعَهُ لَتَتَحَدَّرُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ يَتْبَعُهَا يَتَرَضَّاهَا لِتَخْتَارَهُ فَلَمْ تَفْعَلْ

✧ The husband of Barirah was a black slave belonging to Banu al-Mughirah on the day she was manumitted. By Allah, it is as if I can see him in the streets and districts of Madinah, his tears streaming down onto his beard as he followed her, seeking to please her so that she might choose him, but she did not.
