What scholars said about it
In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.
- Ibn Ḥazm
machine translationThe report from ʿAlī is false (bāṭil), because it comes through Dāwūd al-Zaʿāfirī, who is extremely poor in reliability; then it is also mursal, because al-Shaʿbī never heard a single hadith from ʿAlī.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 3605 - ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī
machine translationIbn Ḥibbān said: Dāwūd al-Awdī is weak (ḍaʿīf); he used to hold the belief in the return (al-rajʿah). Moreover, al-Shaʿbī did not hear from ʿAlī.
machine translationIn its chain is Dāwūd al-Awdī, who is weak (ḍaʿīf). It has other routes in the Sunan of al-Dāraquṭnī, but they are not free of weakness.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 3605 - Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
machine translationIt is also narrated from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAlī, similarly, and this too is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) from ʿAlī.
