✧ He said: There was qisas (retaliation) among the Children of Israel, but there was no diyah (blood money) among them. So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said to this ummah: "Qisas is prescribed for you in the case of the murdered" (al-Baqarah 178) — the verse. "But if any remission is made to anyone by his brother" (al-Baqarah 178). He said: The pardon is that he accepts diyah in the case of deliberate killing. "Then follow-up with propriety" (al-Baqarah 178): the claimant should be followed up with propriety, and the defendant should pay to him with kindness. "That is a concession from your Lord and a mercy" (al-Baqarah 178) compared with what was prescribed upon those before you. 'Abd al-Razzaq said: And Ibn 'Uyaynah informed us with it, from 'Amr b. Dinar, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas.
