ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ نا الرَّبِيعُ نا الشَّافِعِيُّ نا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرٍو عَنْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ
عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ ابْنُ أَبِي يَحْيَى أَحْفَظُ مِنَ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيِّ وَمَعَ ابْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْ سَمِعَ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ عَمْرٍو نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى

✧ He ﷺ something similar. Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Ibn Abi Yahya is more retentive than al-Darawardi, and along with Ibn Abi Yahya is Sulayman b. Bilal. Someone who heard Sulayman informed me from Amr something like the hadith of Ibn Abi Yahya.

machine translationʿAmr is disputed, even though he is among the narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, and so is his freed slave. Al-Tirmidhī said: No hearing from Jābir is known for him. In another place he said: Muḥammad said: I do not know of him having heard from any of the Companions, except for his saying, "Someone who attended the sermon of the Messenger of God ﷺ narrated to me." And I heard ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān say: We do not know of him having heard from any of the Companions.
