  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

machine translationAl-Dāraquṭnī narrated it in the Sunan from the hadith of al-Walīd with it, and said: There is disagreement about it concerning Abū al-Zinād. Al-Ṭabarānī said in al-Awsaṭ: Al-Walīd b. Muslim was alone in narrating it. Al-Dāraquṭnī said in al-ʿIlal: This hadith was mentioned to Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, and he said: Ibn Jurayj did not hear it from Abū al-Zinād; rather it is narrated from Ziyād b. Saʿd from Abū al-Zinād. I said: So the hadith returns to what Abū Dāwūd narrated, and in it is a man who is not named, so it has the ruling of a broken chain (munqaṭiʿ).

  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationIt is not authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) in my view. Ibn Jurayj did not hear anything from Abū al-Zinād; it seems that Ibn Jurayj took it from Ibrāhīm b. Abī Yaḥyā.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationIbn Jurayj narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Al-Walīd b. Muslim narrated it from Ibn Jurayj from Abū al-Zinād from al-Aʿraj from Abū Hurayrah. Abū Qurrah narrated it from Ibn Jurayj from Ziyād b. Saʿd from Abū al-Zinād from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah. Abū ʿĀṣim said from Ibn Jurayj from Ziyād b. Saʿd from Abū al-Zinād from someone who informed him, from ʿĀʾishah. The statement of Abū ʿĀṣim is closer to the correct one. The hadith of al-Walīd b. Muslim was mentioned to Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, and he said: Ibn Jurayj did not hear from Abū al-Zinād; he only narrates from Ziyād b. Saʿd from Abū al-Zinād.
