The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came in to see me and said, "I had intended to fast." Then some ḥays (a dish of dates, cheese and ghee) was presented to him as a gift, and he said, "I will eat, and I will fast another day in its place."

Notes

machine translationNo one narrated it with this wording from Ibn ʿUyaynah except al-Bāhilī, and he was not corroborated in his statement "and I will fast a day in its place." Perhaps it was made to seem so to him, and Allah knows best, because of the great number of those who contradicted him on the authority of Ibn ʿUyaynah. 138
