We found in the book of ʿUmar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said concerning the zakat on camels: On five grazing camels, one sheep; on ten, two sheep; on fifteen, three sheep; on twenty, four sheep; on twenty-five, five sheep. If it exceeds by one, then on it is a bint makhāḍ; if none is found, then an ibn labūn, a male, up to thirty-five. If it exceeds by one, then on it is a bint labūn, up to forty-five. If it exceeds by one, then on it is a ḥiqqah that is fit to be covered by the male camel, up to sixty. If it exceeds by one, then on it is a jadhaʿah, up to seventy-five. If it exceeds by one, then on it are two bint labūn, up to ninety. If it exceeds by one, then on it are two ḥiqqahs, up to one hundred and twenty. If it exceeds by one, then on every forty a bint labūn, and on every fifty a ḥiqqah that is fit to be covered by the male camel.

machine translationAl-Zuhrī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Sufyān b. Ḥusayn and Sulaymān b. Arqam narrated it from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ. There is disagreement about Sulaymān b. Kathīr: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī narrated it from Sulaymān b. Kathīr, from al-Zuhrī, from Sālim, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ, while others narrate it from Sulaymān b. Kathīr as mawqūf. Yūnus narrated it from al-Zuhrī, who said: Sālim b. ʿAbdillāh had me read the letter of ʿUmar on the zakāt, and he related the hadith in full. The statement of Yūnus is closer to the correct view, and God knows best.
