- Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr
machine translationIt is not sound according to the scholars of hadith. It is only narrated by Jābir al-Juʿfī from al-Shaʿbī as a mursal report, and nothing that Jābir al-Juʿfī narrates with a connected chain (musnad) may be used as evidence, so how can what he narrates as mursal be?
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Qurṭubī
machine translationMursal: Jābir b. Yazīd al-Juʿfī, who is abandoned (matrūk), narrated it from al-Shaʿbī. Mujālid also narrated it from al-Shaʿbī, and Mujālid is weak (ḍaʿīf).
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Shafiʿī
machine translationHe was criticized (ṭaʿana fīhi).
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Shafiʿī
machine translationMursal (a report in which a Successor omits the Companion and attributes it directly to the Prophet ﷺ)
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Dāraquṭnī
machine translationNo one narrated it from al-Shaʿbī except Jābir al-Juʿfī, who is abandoned (matrūk), and the hadith is mursal, which cannot be used as evidence.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Ishbīlī
machine translationMujālid also narrated it from al-Juʿfī, and he too is weak (ḍaʿīf).
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī
machine translationThe hadith is mursal and cannot be used as evidence. In it is Jābir al-Juʿfī, who is abandoned (matrūk) in his narration and criticised for his opinion.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - Dāraquṭnī

machine translationEven if its chain were sound, it would be mursal.
in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1484 - al-Tirmidhi
machine translationEven if its chain were sound, it would be mursal, and the mursal according to us is the same as what has not been narrated at all. For if we accepted the mursal report of a Follower (tābiʿī), even if he is trustworthy, we would be obliged to accept the like of it from the Followers of the Followers; and if we accepted that, we would be obliged to accept it from the followers of the Followers of the Followers. That would lead to accepting from anyone who says, "The Messenger of Allah ﷷ said." In this is the demolition of the Sharīʿah. And the strange thing is that Abū Ḥanīfah impugns Jābir al-Juʿfī and calls him a liar, then when the matter compelled him, he began to use his hadith as evidence. That is as al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAbdullāh b. Yazīd al-Qaṭṭān informed us in al-Raqqah: Aḥmad b. Abī l-Ḥawārī narrated to us: I heard Abū Yaḥyā al-Ḥimmānī say: I heard Abū Ḥanīfah say: Among those I met, I saw none better than ʿAṭāʾ, and among those I met, I met none more untruthful than Jābir al-Juʿfī; I never brought him anything of my own opinion except that he brought me a hadith about it. We have already mentioned the biography of Jābir al-Juʿfī in the Book of the Weak Narrators (al-Ḍuʿafāʾ).
