حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَرَفَةَ ثنا هُشَيْمٌ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ سَمُرَةَ

أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ سَكَتَ هُنَيْهَةً وَإِذَا قَرَأَ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ الفاتحة 7 سَكَتَ سَكْتَةً فَأُنْكِرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ فَكَتَبَ فِي ذَلِكَ إِلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فَكَتَبَ أَنَّ الْأَمْرَ كَمَا صَنَعَ سَمُرَةُ

✧ When he began the prayer, he would remain silent for a short while, and when he recited “nor of those who go astray” [al-Fātiḥah 7], he would pause briefly. That was objected to, so he wrote about it to Ubayy b. Kaʿb, who wrote back that the matter was as Samurah had done.
