What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationA established, sound (ṣaḥīḥ) ḥadīth, about whose authenticity there is no disagreement.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationIt is a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith, and its narrators are the narrators of the Ṣaḥīḥ.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationHe was asked about the ḥadīth of Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh from Muʿādh, that he used to pray with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and then leave and lead his people in that same prayer. He said: ʿAmr b. Dīnār narrates it, and there is disagreement about it from him. Al-Ḥasan b. Abī Jaʿfar narrated it from Ayyūb from ʿAmr from Jābir from Muʿādh, and Muḥammad b. Yazīd al-Wāsiṭī followed him, narrating it from Shuʿbah from ʿAmr from Jābir from Muʿādh. But the students of Shuʿbah and the students of Ayyūb contradicted them both, narrating it from them from ʿAmr from Jābir that Muʿādh [did so]. Likewise Manṣūr b. Zādhān, Warqāʾ and Muḥammad b. Muslim narrated it. The sound (ṣaḥīḥ) version is that it belongs to the musnad of Jābir.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationI fear that it is not preserved (maḥfūẓ), because Ibn ʿUyaynah adds to it words that no one else says. Manṣūr and Shuʿbah narrated this hadith, and they did not say what Ibn ʿUyaynah said.

  • ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī

machine translationThis is not sound (ṣaḥīḥ), and even if it were sound, it would be an assumption on the part of Jābir.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThis is an established (thābit) hadith; I do not know of any hadith narrated by a single route that is more firmly established than this, nor with more reliable narrators.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Ibn Rajab

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationLikewise Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl and ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from Ibn Jurayj, and they mentioned this addition in it, and an addition from a trustworthy narrator (thiqah) is accepted. It has also been narrated by another route in the Musnad of al-Shāfiʿī: Ibrāhīm b. Abī Yaḥyā al-Aslamī informed us, from Ibn ʿAjlān, from ʿUbaydullāh b. Miqsam, from Jābir, and he mentioned something similar. We say: as for the claim that it is improbable, that is not a flaw, especially since the hadith contains something that supports the one who finds it improbable, as we have explained. As for this addition, it is not from the words of the Prophet ﷺ; rather it is from the narrators, and perhaps from al-Shāfiʿī, for it revolves around him and is known only from his direction, so it would be an assumption and an independent judgement (ijtihād) on his part.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Shafiʿī

machine translationThis is an established (thābit) hadith; I do not know of any hadith narrated by a single route that is more firmly established than it.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationLikewise Abū ʿĀṣim and ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated it from Ibn Jurayj with this addition, and an addition from a trustworthy narrator (thiqah) is accepted. This addition has also been narrated by another route from Jābir.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • Ibn Ḥajar al-ʿAsqalānī

    machine translationAn authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) hadith.

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
  • ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Jawzī

machine translationThe route of Ibn Jurayj, from ʿAmr b. Dīnār, from Jābir, is not sound (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in سنن الدارقطني, p. 1075
