A questioner came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him about the times of prayer, and he did not reply to him at all. Then he commanded Bilāl, and he called the iqāmah for the prayer when the dawn broke, and he prayed. Then he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for Ẓuhr while one would say, "The sun has passed its zenith," or, "It has not," and he was more knowledgeable than they. Then he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for ʿAṣr while the sun was high. And he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for Maghrib when the sun had set. And he commanded him, and he called the iqāmah for ʿIshāʾ when the twilight disappeared. He said: And on the next day he prayed Fajr while one would say, "The sun has risen," or, "It has not," and he was more knowledgeable than they. And he prayed Ẓuhr close to the time of ʿAṣr of the day before, and he prayed ʿAṣr while one would say, "The sun has turned red." Then he prayed Maghrib before the twilight vanished, and he prayed ʿIshāʾ at the first third of the night. Then he said: "Where is the questioner? The time is between these two times."
