حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، نَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، نَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِعَمِّهِ: قُلْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ أَشْهَدُ لَكَ بِهَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ. فَقَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنْ تُعَيِّرَنِي نِسَاءُ قُرَيْشٍ لَأَقْرَرْتُ بِهَا عَيْنَكَ، يَقُولُونَ: إِنَّمَا حَمَلَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ الْجَزَعُ. فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى: إِنَّكَ لا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَكِنَّ اللهَ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ.

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ said to his uncle: Say: There is no god but God; I will testify for you with it on the Day of Resurrection. He said: Were it not that the women of Quraysh would reproach me, saying that only despair drove him to it, I would delight your eye by affirming it. Then God, Exalted, revealed: “Indeed, you do not guide whom you love, but God guides whom He wills.”
