✧ Three men from those before you went out seeking provisions for their families, and rain overtook them, so they took refuge in a mountain or a cave, and a rock fell upon them - meaning it fell upon the mouth of the cave. They said to one another, "The rock has fallen, the trail is obliterated, and no one knows your location except God, so call upon God by the most trustworthy of your deeds." One of them said, "O God, if You know that I had two elderly parents, and I used to milk for them into their vessel. When I came to them while they were sleeping, I would stand upright until they woke up, whenever they woke up, for I disliked that the milk should turn while they slept. When they woke up, they would drink. O God, if You know that I did that hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment, then relieve us of this rock." He said, "So a third of the rock moved." The second said, "O God, if You know that there was a woman who pleased me, and I desired her, but she refused to yield to me until I made a payment for her. When she took the payment and her soul was at rest, I left her. O God, if You know that I did that hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment, then relieve us of this rock." He said, "So a third of the rock moved." The third said, "O God, if You know that I hired a laborer to work for me for a day, and he worked, then he came seeking his wages, and I gave him but he would not take them and was displeased, so I invested them for him until they became all the wealth. Then he came seeking his wages, and I said, 'Take all of this, and had I wished I would not have given him except his original wage.' O God, if You know that I did that hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment, then relieve us of this rock." He said, "So the rock moved, and they went out walking."
