حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ، نَا الْحَجَّاجُ، نَا حَمَّادٌ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ - عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سُئِلَ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ، فَقَالَ: تُعَرَّفُ وَلَا تُغَيَّبُ وَلَا تُكْتَمُ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا، وَإِلَّا فَهُوَ مَالُ اللهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ was asked about a found item, and he said: It is to be announced, and it is not to be hidden or concealed. If its owner comes, then [it goes to him]; otherwise, it is the wealth of God which He gives to whomever He wills.
