✧ Horses are three: for one man a reward, for another a cover, and upon another a burden. As for the one for which it is a reward: a man who keeps it tethered in the way of Allah and gives it a long tether in a meadow or garden; whatever it eats within the length of its tether in that meadow or garden counts as good deeds for him, and even if it breaks its tether and runs a hill or two, its urine and droppings are good deeds for him, and even if it passes by a river and drinks from it, that is good deeds for him—so it is a reward for him. Another man keeps it tethered out of self-restraint, not forgetting the right of Allah on its backs, so it is a cover for him. Another man keeps it tethered out of pride, ostentation, and enmity against the people of Islam, so it is a burden on him for that.
