✧ We were sitting with the Messenger of God ﷺ when a man from the people of al-'Aliyah appeared before us and said, 'O Messenger of God, tell me the hardest thing in this religion and the softest of it.' He said, 'The softest of it is the testimony that there is no deity but God and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. The hardest of it, O brother of al-'Aliyah, is trustworthiness. Indeed, there is no religion for one who has no trustworthiness, and no prayer for him, and no zakat for him. O brother of al-'Aliyah, whoever acquires wealth unlawfully and spends it is not rewarded for it, and if he hoards it, it becomes his provision to the Fire. O brother of al-'Aliyah, whoever acquires wealth unlawfully and wears a jilbab — meaning a shirt — his prayer is not accepted until he removes that jilbab. God, blessed and exalted, is too generous and too majestic, O brother of al-'Aliyah, to accept the deed or prayer of a man who is wearing a jilbab of unlawful origin.'
