✧ Al-Harith al-Ghatafani came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: "O Muhammad, share with us half the dates of Madinah, or else we will fill it against you with horses and men." He said: "Until I consult the Sa'ds, Sa'd b. Ubadah and Sa'd b. Mu'adh," meaning he would consult them. They said: "By Allah, we did not give the lowly concession from ourselves in the pre-Islamic era, so how can we when Allah has brought Islam?" Al-Harith returned to him and informed him, and he said: "You have acted treacherously, O Muhammad." He said: Then Hassan said: "O neighbor, whoever of you betrays the protection of his neighbor, Muhammad does not betray. If you betray, treachery is one of your customs, and baseness grows in the roots of sakhbar. And the trustworthiness of the Prophet, wherever you encounter it, is like glass whose crack cannot be mended." He said: Then al-Harith said: "Restrain Hassan's tongue from us, O Muhammad, for if seawater were mixed with it, it would stir it up."
