✧ What Muhammad b. Abi Bakr narrated from his father Abu Bakr

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ: نَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَجِيدِ الثَّقَفِيُّ قَالَ: نَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ - يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُمَرَ، عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ:
تُوُفِّيَ أَبِي وَعَلَيْهِ دَيْنٌ فَعَرَضْتُ عَلَى غُرَمَائِهِ أَنْ يَأْخُذُوا التَّمْرَةَ بِمَا عَلَيْهِ فَأَبَوْا، وَلَمْ يَرَوْا فِيهِ وَفَاءً فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ: إِذَا جَدَدْتَهُ فَوَضَعْتَهُ فِي الْمِرْبَدِ فَآذِنِّي فَلَمَّا جَدَدْتُهُ فَوَضَعْتُهُ فِي الْمِرْبَدِ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ وَمَعَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِمَا فَجَلَسَ فَدَعَا بِالْبَرَكَةِ فِيهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: ادْعُ غُرَمَاءَكَ فَأَوْفِهِمْ، فَمَا تَرَكْتُ أَحَدًا لَهُ عَلَى أَبِي دَيْنٌ إِلَّا قَضَيْتُهُ، وَفَضَلَ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ وَسْقًا، سَبْعَةٌ عَجْوَةٌ، وَسِتَّةٌ لَوْنٌ أَوْ سِتَّةٌ عَجْوَةٌ، وَسَبْعَةٌ لَوْنٌ، فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَذَكَرْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ فَضَحِكَ وَقَالَ: " ائْتِ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ فَأَخْبِرْهُمَا " فَأَتَيْتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمَا فَقَالَا: قَدْ عَلِمْنَا إِذْ صَنَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا صَنَعَ أَنَّهُ سَيَكُونُ ذَلِكَ

✧ My father died owing a debt. I offered his creditors to take the dates for what was owed, but they refused and did not see in it full repayment. So I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned that to him. He said: When you harvest it and place it in the drying yard, inform me. When I harvested it and placed it in the drying yard, I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he came with Abu Bakr and Umar, may Allah have mercy on them. He sat and invoked blessing upon it, then said: Call your creditors and pay them. I did not leave anyone who had a debt against my father except that I paid him, and thirteen wasqs remained: seven of 'ajwah and six of lawn, or six of 'ajwah and seven of lawn. I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he laughed and said: Go to Abu Bakr and Umar and inform them. So I went to Abu Bakr and Umar and informed them, and they said: We knew, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did what he did, that this would happen.
