  • Abū Zakariyyā Yaḥyá b. Sharaf al-Nawawī

machine translationIt is reported that the majority declared this hadith weak (ḍaʿīf), and al-Tirmidhī was criticised for grading it good (ḥasan).

    in مسند البزار, p. 7997
  • ʿAlī al-Madīnī

machine translationNothing sound has been established on this subject; it is not strong (laysa bi-dhāk).

    in مسند البزار, p. 7997

machine translationI do not know of any established hadith on 'whoever washes a deceased person, let him bathe'; and had it been established, we would be obliged to act on it.

    in مسند البزار, p. 7997
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationMuḥammad b. ʿAmr and Ṣafwān b. Sulaym narrate it, and it was narrated from al-ʿAlāʾ, from his father, from Abū Hurayrah; Zuhayr b. Muḥammad said this from him, and it is not preserved (maḥfūẓ).

    in مسند البزار, p. 7997

machine translationThe upshot is that its attribution to the Prophet (marfūʿ) is weak, and its being a statement of the Companion (mawqūf) is sound (ṣaḥīḥ).

    in مسند البزار, p. 7997
  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationNothing sound has been established on this subject; it is not strong (laysa bi-dhāk).
