What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Yaḥyá b. Maʿīn

machine translationHe wrote it in his own hand, from Abū Hurayrah: it is false (bāṭil).

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798
  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationMy father said: This is a mistake. Sufyān b. Ḥusayn did not do anything (sound); it does not resemble being from the Prophet ﷺ, and the best that can be said of it is that it is the saying of Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab. Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd also narrated it from Saʿīd as his own saying.

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798

machine translationThe hadith from Saʿīd b. Bashīr from al-Zuhrī is more correct than that of Saʿīd b. Bashīr from Qatādah, because this hadith has no basis in the narration of Qatādah, whereas in the narration of al-Zuhrī it has a basis; Sufyān b. Ḥusayn also narrated it from al-Zuhrī.

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798
  • Ibn Ḥazm

machine translationHe declared it sound (ṣaḥḥaḥa) from the hadith of Abū Hurayrah.

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798

  • Yaḥyá b. Maʿīn

machine translationHe was asked about it and said: "This is false (bāṭil)," and he struck out [the name of] Abū Hurayrah.

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798
  • Ibn Daqīq al-ʿĪd

machine translationThis Sufyān is trustworthy (thiqah); Muslim narrated from him, except that he was considered weak (istuḍʿifa) in the hadith of al-Zuhrī.

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798
  • Abū Ḥatim al-Rāzī

machine translationʿUqayl also narrated it from Ibn Shihāb, who said: "I heard men of knowledge saying that." He said: "This is the sound (ṣaḥīḥ) one."

    in مسند البزار, p. 7798
