✧ What Sa'id b. al-Musayyib narrated from Abu Hurayra

حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ:

مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ الزَّرْعِ، لَا تَزَالُ الرِّيحُ تُمِيلُهُ، وَلَا يَزَالُ الْمُؤْمِنُ يُصِيبُهُ بَلَاءٌ، وَمَثَلُ الْمُنَافِقِ كَمَثَلِ الشَّجَرَةِ الْأَرْزِ، لَا تَزَالُ تَهْتَزُّ حَتَّى تَنْجَفِلَ

Translation

✧ The example of a believer is like that of a crop: the wind keeps bending it, and the believer keeps being afflicted with trials. The example of a hypocrite is like that of a cedar tree: it keeps shaking until it is uprooted.
