✧ I saw Ali b. Abi Talib delivering a sermon and he laughed. We were surprised at his laughter. When he descended, we said, "O Commander of the Faithful, you laughed on the pulpit; why did you laugh?" He said, "I remembered Abu Talib. I saw myself with the Prophet ﷺ when the prayer time came—the afternoon prayer—and we had come to a place called Nakhlah. I think he said: we wanted to pray. Abu Talib looked at us and said, 'O sons of my brother, what are you doing?' We said, 'We are praying.' The Prophet ﷺ invited him to Islam, and he said, 'What you call me to is good, but by God, O son of my brother, my buttocks will never be above me.' I laughed at his words."
