Chain of narrators
- Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad al-Kūfī
- Muḥammad b. Abū ʿUbaydah al-Masʿūdī
- his father
- al-Aʿmash
- Abū Sufyān
- Anas and -al-Lafẓ Lafẓ Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdullāh
✧ They struck the Messenger of Allah ﷺ one day until he fell unconscious. Abu Bakr stood up and said, “Woe to you! Would you kill a man for saying, ‘My Lord is Allah’?” They said, “Who is this?” They said, “This is Ibn Abi Quhafah, the madman.” I think he said, “So they left him and turned to Abu Bakr ؓ.”

machine translationI do not know of anyone who narrates this from al-Aʿmash with this chain other than Abū ʿUbaydah, and from Abū ʿUbaydah his son Muḥammad. Ibn Abī ʿUbaydah has, from his father from al-Aʿmash, strange reports (gharāʾib) and solitary narrations (afrād), and in my view there is nothing wrong with him (lā baʾs bihi).
