✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in the garden of a man from the Ansar when a man came and asked for permission to enter. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “O Anas, get up, open for him, give him the glad tidings of Paradise, and tell him that he will assume authority over my nation after me.” So I got up and opened for him, and there was Abu Bakr ؓ. I gave him the glad tidings, and he praised Allah and entered. Then another came and knocked on the door. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Get up, O Anas, open for him, give him the glad tidings of Paradise, and tell him that he will assume the affairs of my nation after Abu Bakr.” So I opened for him, and there was Umar ؓ. I gave him the glad tidings, and he praised Allah and entered. Then another came and knocked on the door, and he said: “O Anas, get up, open for him, give him the glad tidings of Paradise — and I think he said: and tell him that he will assume the affairs of my nation after Abu Bakr and Umar, and that he will face severe hardship from the subjects, so command him at that time to refrain.” So I opened for him, and there was Uthman b. Affan ؓ. I gave him the glad tidings, and he praised Allah, and I informed him of what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said.
