حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، نَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ، نَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:
لَمَّا أُمِرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِبَيْعَةِ الرِّضْوَانِ كَانَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَسُولَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ فَبَايَعَ النَّاسَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ عُثْمَانَ فِي حَاجَتِكَ وَحَاجَةِ رَسُولِكَ، فَضَرَبَ بِإِحْدَى يَدَيْهِ عَلَى الْأُخْرَى، فَكَانَتْ يَدُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لِعُثْمَانَ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَيْدِيهِمْ لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ
Translation

✧ When the Prophet ﷺ was commanded concerning the pledge of al-Ridwan, ‘Uthman b. ‘Affan was the envoy of the Messenger of God ﷺ to the people of Makkah, so he pledged on behalf of the people. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “O God, ‘Uthman is engaged in Your service and the service of Your Messenger,” and he struck one hand over the other. Thus the hand of the Messenger of God ﷺ for ‘Uthman was better for him than their own hands were for themselves.
