✧ I prayed behind the Messenger of God ﷺ, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, and ʿUthmān, and I never heard any of them recite 'In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful' aloud.

machine translationThe hadiths on reciting silently are explicit texts that do not admit of reinterpretation. Moreover, nothing else conflicts with them, because of their soundness and authenticity. The hadiths on reciting aloud are, without doubt, not equal to them in authenticity. Then, the most authentic of the hadiths on not reciting aloud is the hadith of Anas, though its wording was disputed from him. The most authentic of the narrations from him is: "They would begin the recitation with 'Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.'"

machine translationIt was likewise narrated from al-Aʿmash, from Qatādah and Thābit, from Anas. It was likewise narrated by the majority of Qatādah's students, among them Hishām al-Dastuwāʾī, Saʿīd b. Abī ʿArūbah, Abān b. Yazīd al-ʿAṭṭār, Ḥammād b. Salamah, Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl, Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī, al-Awzāʿī, Saʿīd b. Bashīr and others. Maʿmar and Hammām also narrated it, but the wording differs from them. And it is the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version from Qatādah and others, from Anas.
