وَبِإِسْنَادِهِ ;

Translation

✧ A man called out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on Friday while he was delivering the sermon to the people in Madinah: 'O Messenger of Allah, the rain has withheld, so pray to your Lord to grant us rain.' The Prophet of Allah ﷺ looked, and there was no trace of large clouds. He prayed for rain, and clouds began to gather one upon another until the water channels of Madinah flowed. They remained like that until the coming Friday, and it did not stop. Then that man, or another, stood while the Prophet of Allah ﷺ was delivering the sermon and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we are drowned, so pray to Allah to hold it back from us.' The Prophet of Allah ﷺ laughed, then said: 'O Allah, around us and not upon us; O Allah, around us and not upon us' – he laughed twice or three times. He said: The clouds began to break up from Madinah to the right and left; it rained around it, but nothing rained in it, so that Allah might show them the honor of His Prophet ﷺ and the answer to his supplication.
