✧ We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey, and he heard the voice of a muezzin saying: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah" (Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest, I bear witness that there is no god but Allah). He said: "He has been sincere." Then he said: "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah" (I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah). He said: "He has come out of disbelief." Then we looked, and he was a shepherd; when the time for prayer came, he gave the call to prayer.

machine translationḤumayd al-Ṭawīl, Khulayd b. Daʿlaj and Yūsuf b. ʿAṭiyyah al-Ṣaffār narrate it from Qatādah, from Anas. There is disagreement (ikhtilāf) about Qatādah: Sallām b. Miskīn narrated it from Qatādah, from a companion of his, from ʿAlqamah, from Ibn Masʿūd. Muʿādh b. Muʿādh and ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. al-Ḥuṣayn narrated it from Ibn Abī ʿArūbah, from Qatādah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, from ʿAbdullāh, and they did not mention ʿAlqamah. Likewise Maṭar al-Warrāq and ʿImrān al-Qaṭṭān narrated it from Qatādah, from Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, from ʿAbdullāh. And Ayyūb b. Abī Miskīn Abū al-ʿAlāʾ narrated it from Qatādah, from al-Ḥasan, from Ibn Masʿūd. The closest of them to being correct is the report of Muʿādh b. Muʿādh.
