حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَعْمَرٍ، نَا رَوْحُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ، نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ;

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah while Abdullah b. Salam was in his palm grove. When he heard of him, he came and said: O Muhammad, I will ask you about things that no one knows except a prophet. If you inform me of them, then you are the Messenger of Allah. He asked him about resemblance, about the first thing with which people will be gathered, and about the first thing the people of Paradise will eat. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Jibril informed me of them just now. Abdullah said: Indeed, that one is an enemy of the Jews. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: As for resemblance, if the man's fluid precedes the woman's fluid, the child resembles him, and if the woman's fluid precedes the man's fluid, the child resembles her. As for the first thing with which people will be gathered, it is a fire that will come from the direction of the east and gather the people to the west. And the first thing the people of Paradise will eat is the extra lobe of the fish's liver. So Ibn Salam believed and said: O Messenger of Allah, the Jews are a slanderous people, and if they hear of my embracing Islam, they will slander me and speak against me. So hide me and send for them and ask them about me. He sent for them, and they came—while he had hidden him—and he said: What kind of man is Abdullah b. Salam among you? They said: He is our master and the son of our master, our best and the son of our best, our scholar and the son of our scholar. He said: What if he embraces Islam, would you embrace Islam? They said: May Allah protect him from that; he would never do it. He said: Come out, O Ibn Salam, to them. He came out and said: I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. They said: Rather, he is our worst and the son of our worst, our ignorant one and the son of our ignorant one. He said: Did I not tell you, O Messenger of Allah, that they are a slanderous people?
