حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُرَشِيُّ، نَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، قَالَ:

لَمَّا كَانَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي دَخَلَ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْمَدِينَةَ أَضَاءَ مِنْهَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ أَظْلَمَ مِنْهَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ، وَمَا نَفَضْنَا عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ الْأَيْدِيَ إِنَّا لَفِي دَفْنِهِ حَتَّى أَنْكَرْنَا قُلُوبَنَا

Translation

✧ On the day the Messenger of God ﷺ entered Madinah, everything in it was illuminated. On the day he died, everything in it became dark. We had not finished burying the Messenger of God ﷺ - we were still in the process of his burial - before we found our hearts changed.
