حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، نَا هِشَامُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ الْبَصْرِيُّ، نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ;

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sleeping in the house of Umm Sulaym, and she came to him while he was uttering the istirjāʿ (saying 'Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we return'). She said, 'O Messenger of Allah, why are you saying istirjāʿ?' He said, 'Because of an army that will come down from the direction of Iraq seeking a man from Madinah whom Allah will protect from them. When they ascend al-Baydāʾ from Dhū al-Ḥulayfah, they will be swallowed up, and neither will their highest reach their lowest nor their lowest reach their highest until the Day of Resurrection; and their places of destruction will be scattered.' It was said, 'O Messenger of Allah, how can they all be swallowed up while their places of destruction are scattered?' He said, 'Indeed among them—or in them—is one who was compelled.'
