✧ While the Messenger of God ﷺ was delivering a sermon, a man stood up to him and said: 'O Messenger of God, the people are exhausted and the land is barren—or he said: has become barren—so ask God for rain for us.' He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O God, give us rain.' He said: We did not see even a wisp of cloud in the sky. He said: The clouds gathered and they were rained upon until the like of it. Then that man or another stood up and said: 'O Messenger of God, the houses have collapsed and the roads have been cut off, so supplicate God to lift it from us.' The Messenger of God ﷺ said: 'O God, around us and not upon us.' He said: The sky cleared over Madinah, and it rained around it, but we were not rained upon.
