حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، قَالَ: نَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، قَالَ:
كَانَ عَلِيٌّ، وَأَبُو مَسْعُودٍ قَاعِدَيْنِ، فَمَرَّتْ بِهِمَا جِنَازَةٌ، فَقَامَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلِيٌّ: اجْلِسْ، فَقَالَ: أَمَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا كُنَّا نَقُومُ لِلْجَنَائِزِ، قَالَ: إِنَّمَا " كَانَ ذَلِكَ وَأَنْتُمْ يَهُودُ "

✧ Ali and Abu Mas'ud were sitting, and a funeral procession passed by them. Abu Mas'ud stood, so Ali said to him: Sit down. He said: Do you not know that we used to stand for funerals? He said: That was only when you were Jews.
