حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ، نَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ;

✧ Hawazin came on the day of Hunayn with children, women, camels, and sheep, and arranged them in rows to outnumber the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Muslims and the polytheists met, and the Muslims turned their backs in flight, as Allah Almighty said. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'O slaves of Allah, I am the slave of Allah and His Messenger.' Then he said: 'O assembly of Ansar, I am the slave of Allah and His Messenger.' Then Allah defeated the polytheists, and he did not strike with a sword or thrust with a spear. The Prophet ﷺ said that day: 'Whoever kills an unbeliever, his spoils belong to him.' Abu Talhah killed twenty men that day and took their spoils. Abu Qatadah said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I struck a man on the shoulder strap, and he had a coat of mail, but I was too hurried to take it. See with whom it is.' A man stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I took it. Satisfy him with something from it and give it to me.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent; he used not to be asked for something except that he gave it or remained silent. Umar b. al-Khattab ؓ said: 'Allah will not give it as spoils to one of His lions and then give it to you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed and said: 'Umar spoke the truth.' Abu Talhah met Umm Sulaym, and she had a dagger. He said: 'O Umm Sulaym, what is this with you?' She said: 'By Allah, I intended that if one of them came near me, I would rip open his belly.' Abu Talhah informed the Prophet ﷺ of that, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Allah has sufficed and been good.'
