✧ The Basrans from Anas

حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، نَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ:

لَا يَتَمَنَّى أَحَدُكُمُ الْمَوْتَ لِضُرٍّ نَزَلَ بِهِ، فَإِنْ كَانَ لَا بُدَّ مُتَمَنِّيًا فَلْيَقُلِ: اللَّهُمَّ أَحْيِنِي مَا كَانَتِ الْحَيَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي، وَتَوَفَّنِي إِذَا كَانَتِ الْوَفَاةُ خَيْرًا لِي

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muʾammal b. Hishām
  2. Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm
  3. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Ṣuhayb
  4. Anas b. Mālik
  5. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ None of you should wish for death because of harm that has befallen him. If he must wish for it, let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is good for me, and cause me to die when death is good for me.
