✧ I was sitting with the Prophet ﷺ in the mosque of Minā when a man from the Anṣār and a man from Thaqīf came and greeted him, then said: “O Messenger of Allah, we have come to ask you.” He said: “If you wish, I will inform you about what you came to ask me; if you wish, I will remain silent and you may ask.” They said: “Inform us, O Messenger of Allah.” The Thaqafī said to the Anṣārī: “Ask.” He said: “Inform me, O Messenger of Allah.” He said: “You came to ask me about your departure from your house heading to the Sacred House and what you have in it, about your two rakʿahs after ṭawāf and what you have in them, about your walking between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah and what you have in it, about your standing on the evening of ʿArafah and what you have in it, about your stoning of the jamarāt and what you have in it, about your sacrifice and what you have in it, about shaving your head and what you have in it, and about your circumambulation of the House after that and what you have in it along with the ifāḍah.” He said: “By the One who sent you with the truth, about this I came to ask you.” He said: “When you leave your house heading to the Sacred House, your camel does not place a hoof nor raise it except that Allah writes a good deed for you for it and erases a sin from you. As for your two rakʿahs after ṭawāf, they are like freeing a slave from the descendants of Ismāʿīl. As for your walking between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah after that, it is like freeing seventy slaves. As for your standing on the evening of ʿArafah, Allah, Blessed and Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven and boasts of you to the angels, saying: ‘My servants have come to Me disheveled from every deep valley hoping for My mercy. If your sins were as many as the grains of sand, or as the drops of rain, or as the foam of the sea, He would forgive them’—or ‘I would forgive them.’ ‘Depart, My servants, forgiven for you and for those you intercede for.’ As for your stoning of the jamarāt, for every pebble you throw, you have a major sin among the destructive sins removed. As for your sacrifice, it is stored for you with your Lord. As for shaving your head, for every hair you shave, you have a good deed and a sin is erased from you. As for your circumambulation of the House after that, you circumambulate and you have no sin. An angel comes and places his hands between your shoulders and says: ‘Work for what is ahead, for what is past has been forgiven for you.’”
