✧ The Prophet ﷺ said one day: 'Tell me of a tree that resembles the Muslim, whose leaves do not fall, and it gives its fruit at all times by the permission of its Lord.' It occurred to me that it was the date palm. He said: The people remained silent. Then the Prophet said: 'It is the date palm.' I said to my father: 'It had occurred to me that it was the date palm.' He said: 'What prevented you from saying it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? If you had said it, it would have been dearer to me than such and such.' I said: 'You and Abu Bakr were among the people, and neither of you said anything, so I disliked to speak.'
